Here's how to get Google Apps on your phone.

BEFORE YOU BEGIN:

  1. Enable IMAP in your Gmail settings:

    1. Sign in to Gmail.

    2. Click the gear icon

    3. in the upper right, then select Settings.

    4. Click Forwarding and POP/IMAP.

    5. Select Enable IMAP.

    6. Click Save Changes.

  2. Visit preferences.simmons.edu and change your password. You can choose a new password or re-enter your current password. This is a necessary step before setting up your mobile device.

CONFIGURING YOUR WINDOWS PHONE:

  1. Open the Microsoft Exchange Active Sync application on your device's home screen.

  2. Select Set up your device to sync with it.

  3. Enter m.google.com as the server address.

  4. Ensure that the SSL option is selected.

  5. Select Next.

  6. Enter your Simmons email address in the User name field and your Simmons password in the Password field.

  7. Please note that to configure your email, you will need to use the "username@simmons.edu" version of your email address, and not the firstname.lastname@simmons.edu" version.

  8. Leave the Domain field empty. If your device requires you to enter a domain name, enter google.

  9. Select Next.

  10. Check Contacts, Calendar, or Email, depending on which you'd like to sync. (Tasks is not yet supported and will lead to an error if checked.)

  11. Select Finish.

  12. Select Sync to synchronize.

CONFIGURING YOUR WINDOWS 8 PHONE (OR SURFACE TABLET):

    1. From Start, open Mail.

    2. Please note that you need to have a Microsoft account associated with your device in order to add an email account. The first time you start the Mail app, you'll be prompted to set up a Microsoft account. If needed, sign in or create a Microsoft account, and then proceed directly to step #4.

    3. Open the Settings charm by swiping to the left from the right edge of the screen and select Settings.

  1. Then select Accounts, and select Add an account.

    1. Select the Google option.

    2. Sign in with your Simmons email address and password.

    3. Please note that to configure your email, you will need to use the "username@simmons.edu" version of your email address, and not the firstname.lastname@simmons.edu" version.

  2. Check the box Include your Google contacts and calendars.

  3. Select Connect.

  4. If prompted to Make my PC more secure, select Enforce these policies.

Access other apps such as Docs and Tasks from your phone's browser app. Just point the browser to m.google.com, touch the app you want to use, and sign in to your Google Apps account.
